Mau Ghost Face Mask
A photograph depicting a Mau (ghost) face mask painted white with black pigment. The mask features slit eyes, an elongated nose, and a mouth with teeth, accompanied by ear projections. The forehead and under-eye regions are decorated with carved and painted extended triangles, while the center of the forehead and areas near the ears contain etched markings. Darkly painted circular decorations appear on the chin, and the top of the mask is finished with a black, scalloped edge. The object is ovoid in form and exhibits a granular surface texture, typical of carved wood or similar composite materials.

The mask is associated with the Obugulu Mau masquerade. In complete performance attire, these masqueraders wore elaborate headdresses composed of colorful tassels, string, and felt.
